Grand Central Terminal turned 100 years old yesterday!
I live-tweeted the morning’s spectacular event for Arts for Transit. The celebration included music, poetry, speeches and memories. Caroline Kennedy read part of a letter her mom, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, wrote to then-Mayor Abe Beam in 1975 urging him to save Grand Central Terminal from demolition. (I wish I transcribed Caroline Kennedy’s reading of the letter because it was beautiful and stirring, and I’ve yet to find the text online.)
Thankfully, Grand Central Terminal still stands. I love this building. It takes my breath away every time I visit.
